    Hi all.

I wanted to start something a bit off topic. It might get moved. And that's cool.

But, one thing I've noticed over the last few 10.3.1 releases is that it seems to me the left -right balance when playing back music (let's concentrate on the native music app and not worry about online or Bluetooth, etc) through headphones has lost a lot of fidelity.

For me, the quality of music playback and volume has been a huge bragging point for BlackBerry over a long span of time.

It seems to me, getting to the point, that the last 2-3 releases (Z30 on 2726, sachesi) have sounded more "muddy" and the left-right balance has gone very poor. At least compared to 10.2 and the previous 4-5 10.3.1 releases.

I am not discounting the possibility that my hardware or headphones may have an issue.

But, in a purely subjective fashion, what do you "audiophiles" say about your experience of quality over the last three releases of 10.3.1?

To me it seems as if the stereo balance is gone, as if one of my headphones' cords was shorting.

Looking for any feedback on native playback through ear buds only. Not concerned with online services, the device speakers, Bluetooth et al.

Just native playback through the headphone jack.

    Thanks.

For me the left channel has always been louder.

Hey guys, doesn't seem that any of the last updates have had any issue on the audio quality. I have used the Z10, Z30 and now using the Q10 with almost all variations of 10.2 and 10.3 and now on the 10.3.2 beta. I have used various earplugs and constantly use the line out in the car. I have an awesome music system in the car and if there was any balance issue or quality downgrade I would have surely noticed. As for the earplugs I have used atleast 4-5 different ones in the last 6 months or so and I have not notices any issues apart from a clicking sound in a couple of. 10.3 releases.

I also noticed a left/right balance issue, to the point where I went looking for an audio balance setting that I swear was three in older OS updates before but I couldn't find it in 10.3.1.

I too thought my hearing was going :-)

And since someone asked, I autoloadered w/o a restore to 10.3.1.19## and then OTA upgraded twice to my current version.

So that's an even mix of yes and no. Good to hear some of you seem to be having the same balance issue. I am going to nuke and autoload, going back to the 1xxx releases as a test.

Although not to a large degree, I feel the audio has deteriorated as well on Z30 100-5 and Passport with AT&T. All 10.3.1 from what I can tell. The balance issue I feel has been there since bb10 began, but I feel is worse now. With Z10 as well as Z30 and Passport, with multiple OEM as well as with dozens of Skullcandy various models. I know when I've put the wrong earbud in each ear as I'm so used to the balance being as it is and it trips me out to reverse it.

Autoloaded 10.3.1.2726 then updated OTA to PassportSQW100-1/10.3.2.281.

    No restore.

The audio is not bad and as another poster mentioned. Listening via car radio and bluetooth devices is fine.

It's only when I put on headphones. Ive tried this with audio technica, Philips fidelity and urban ears.

Passport has had audio issues from launch, when using headphones and auxiliary use. Other devices (Z10, Q10, ect) seem to have had a lower audio quality and I mean the volume specifically when speaking in reference to this all.

It's kind of hard to pin point where the issue lies though, some people say they have had issues while some say they have. I know surely that my Passport when using 10.3 at the time played extremely lower oppose to my Z10 that was using 2.1. I loaded my Z10 to 3.1 and it's audio quality went down just not playing at the same volume level it once was.

I had shot a tweet to Michael Clewley in which he responded that he'd look into it. Yet to no avail, the native music app needs some work altogether no doubt. I'm not certain whether this is software or hardware, I'm pretty sure it's software as to my Z10's quality changing due to the update, but I'm certain we won't see a change until 10.4.

I think I had that once where it sounded like the headphone jack wasn't inserted in all the way. Happened after a phone call came in when I was listening to music and I had to restart the phone to get the headset audio sounding normal again.

As a sound engineer I don't like the native player, try Neutron Player, it lets you play around with the balance. It does cost though.

I have not had any issues on my Z10 STL100-3 thru headphones or streaming to an XBOX. I have had, however, a problem for as long as I've had this phone with audio volume and quality when using a car stereo via the headphones jack. Many songs I can barely hear even with the volume maxed out. This is true in my personal car as well as several rentals. Same issue when playing in the car via Bluetooth.

But again, no issue with headphones and streaming to XBOX and playing thru TV.

Wow, it takes a sound engineer telling me to adjust balance.

I've noticed the left channel to be quieter than the right. Haven't noticed anything when streaming audio via Bluetooth so I am suspecting it's a hardware issue, perhaps the audio jack. I should test with some of my other headphones and see if it's noticeable.

Try the new 10.3.2.500 build as its a huge audio improvement over the previous versions. Some of us do have good ears and yes I agree with your earlier comments.

I have noticed at times (not all the time) that my Z10 at the time would be louder in one ear than the other. I assumed that it was simply because I was listening in one ear beforehand and my ears hadn't adjusted after putting in the other.

This happened again on my current Z30, and again I assumed it was simply ears adjusting.

To reiterate, this isn't something that is constant, it's seemingly random and personally isn't that big of a deal however I do wish BlackBerry would do something about this if it were something in the OS and not simply my ears.

The quality on the other hand, is loud and I've turned off the "loudness" setting which I usually have on. But I feel as if the audio has gotten to be a bit lacking and lifeless. Flat. Like the BlackBerry natural sound technology that they made such a big deal out of a while back is missing.

Ha, this would explain why my headphones seems off-balance at times (left is quieter). And I was suspecting headphones cable wear.
    Z30 if anyone asks.
