I don't know why BlackBerry have done this but now I notice it it's driving me mad. I've just updated my Q10 and Z10 to the new .2072 leak and so far everything works great except this one thing. I thought this was a bug so I've done loads of wipes, used an autoloader instead of a blitz and I can only conclude that blackberry have done this intentionally and I hate it!

The problem is that the active frames that don't contain a widget no longer contain the last image displayed. A few seconds after minimising an app the frame flashes (as if it's about to load an active frame widget) and the active frame is replaced with a screen shot of when you first opened the app. This is really jarring as the content of the frame no longer matches with what's going on in the app. Let me show you.

.2072 new active frame behavior driving me nuts!-img_20150130_210313.png

Here's my home screen. Let's open up the settings. On earlier versions of the OS the screen would expand and I would be in the main menu....

.2072 new active frame behavior driving me nuts!-img_20150130_222147.png

NOPE I'm in network settings.... continuity FTW?!

    Let's click on maps

.2072 new active frame behavior driving me nuts!-img_20150130_210345.png

    Oh well that's different...

    THIS IS NOT FLOW!!!!

I've not had this happen on any other version of the OS and it was so useful, I could:

    - Leave a note open and read it in the active frame, great for shopping lists etc.

    - Have a calculation open and be able to read the number off my screen.

    - know what to expect when I open a damn app!

Curiously the functionality seems to be fine for the browser thank god, and android apps... Once again BlackBerry is encouraging people away from native. Yeah sure we can have widgets in our active frames but sometimes that's not what you want and functionality is better with just the screenshot. I really wish BlackBerry would give the option to have completely live frames ala PlayBook so I could check progress bars without loading the entire app etc. but that's another story.

But anyway aside from having a massive rant, I guess my question is, is it just me that has this behaviour? Is there any way to fix it while retaining the features of the latest OS release? And if not, what was the latest version of the OS not to exhibit this behaviour? And finally how can I get in touch with John Chen and tell him not to break my favourite mobile OS!

Thanks crackberrians I hope some of you find this as annoying as me and we can get this sorted by blackberry. If this is in the official 10.3.1 I will be so pissed...

I am currently back to 10.2.1 and after reading your post, tested this out. 10.2.1 behaves in the manner as you are seeing with the. 2072 leak.

    Minimise the app.

    You should see this.

Hmmmm, I might have to upgrade then as this is something I use regularly. Let's see if the passport is still 400 on clove.

I really hope this change isn't an attempt for BlackBerry to improve performance on older hardware, my phone works fine as it is thankyou very much.

EDIT: Balls! It's up to 454.99 grrrr

Interesting. I'm on PassportSQW100-1/10.3.1.2072 and I just tried minimizing about six different Settings screens. The results were erratic. Sometimes it reverted to the main screen, sometimes not. Once, it reverted from the Location screen to the Network Connections screen!

    Definitely buggy.

I have a Passport with 10.3.1.2072, it is doing exactly as you describe. I open settings, go to Network settings, minimize to active frame, and after a few seconds it shows the main settings menu and not what I was looking at last. One way to provoke the behavior is to swipe in and out of the Hub, sometimes it doesn't do it right away.

I can't say that I noticed it until I read this thread, as I can't say I use my active frames that way. I do have to admit that you certainly have a point though. What's the point of having an active frame if it doesn't show pertinent information. It might as well just be an icon. Which is pretty much why I don't really look at the info the active frames display. I've more or less found it useless from day one. Take the BBM app, it has said "So and So said 'BBM for Andriod and iPhone is here. Spread the word...'" for as long as I can recall. Same person, same message... useless.

There certainly needs to be some work done with displaying useful pertinent info in the active frames.

Did you follow the EXACT steps he mentioned? You have to open, minimize, maximize again, go to another screen, then minimize again

Yep, active frames are great as long as they are useful. The widget type ones are fine, but in so many cases a dev just sets it to an icon, in that case I think I'd rather just have the last viewed screen in the app.

It might just be me but here's a common use scenario for me. I use an app called notepad plus, because of the way it used to work in an active frame.

I open up a note and start writing a shopping list and minimise.

.2072 new active frame behavior driving me nuts!-img_20150131_082025.png

Then I might have some stuff in black bullet that I want to copy/paste in then minimise.

.2072 new active frame behavior driving me nuts!-img_20150131_082032.png

Now I can get a quick overview of what my shopping list is without opening the app every time. Great if you have a chat ongoing or something.

    Oh wait I'm on .2072...

I would suggest Press and hold the Volume up key and the Volume down key at the same time for 10 seconds and performing a reset and then checking your phone again with active frames.

May be wait till the official release of 10.3.1 to confirm this problem still persists. 50quid is a lot haha why don't you try getting it from carphone warehouse its only 399.99 !!!

Checked the other day and it must have dropped! Excellent I'd much rather buy from somewhere with a retail presence as it makes warranty issues much easier. Good spot! I was waiting for a good price drop before pulling the trigger on this and was disappointed when I'd missed out on the clove offer.

I hope BlackBerry come to their senses and sorts this out for the official release as it's another feature (RIP flash) that's eating in to the advantages BlackBerry have over the competition. I'm still not changing OS, the Samsung s5 I've got as a work phone is nowhere near by bbs in terms of efficency and functionality (email and pim) even though I have downloaded and bought some of the best email, calendar and reminder apps available.

Looks like BlackBerry is still the best option for me for the time being!

Always buy from a Authorised dealer, when it comes to repair and warranty issues it's a lot easier to deal with!

The so called delay in releasing 10.3.1 could be due to many bugs, the official OS could be out by mid Feb. Hopefully they'd have it sorted my then.

Many just hate BlackBerry 10 OS, they have no clue how efficient the whole system is.
