Is this true that the Z10 would be left after 10.3?

In fact, none of the current devices are supposed to even get 10.3 - officially (of course, that won't stop us). Only the upcoming Passport is to have it.

All the others, including the Z10, were to wait another month or so for 10.3.1.

This has been mentioned all over this site for the past few weeks.

To the OP, where to you get your info?

Was just roumers saying that 10.3 is the last software upgrade for the first batch of BlackBerry 10 phones such as z10 q10 q5 z30 so my assuming is that when 10.4 lands you will have to have a new BlackBerry smartphone such as the passport

Well, 10.4 is a different animal. We don't know yet what that will be. Some speculate that 10.4 will come with 64-bit hardware - and. yeah, that might leave out all current hardware. Some think that won't happen until 11 - if there's going to even be an "11", and not some other naming convention by then. But, there's been nothing definitive either way. As it is, 10.3.1 will be another fairly major update in spite of the second point number increment. After all, 10.2.1 was a pretty significant update from 10.2.0.

I'm not sure what your meaning is. Apple has been pretty good about providing several major OS updates for their phones over the years - we're talking whole number version updates. Even if the older phones can't do everything the newer ones can, they at least update what they can. BlackBerry was always pretty quick to just stop updating in-market phones. You were lucky if you had a phone that got even one number version update during its lifetime.

I had a Pearl 8100 that came with 4.1, and it updated to 4.5 within a couple of months. But that's it. BB (RIM at the time) couldn't bother with trying to fit 4.6 in it which had the new UI and Precision icon set, much less OS 5. Sure, they provided bug fix build updates for over 2 years, but it was still 4.5.

My next BB was the Torch 9800 that came with OS 6. After two and half years of using it, what OS was available for it? OS 6. They started work on 6.1 and even teased us about, but soon forgot about all us OS 6 users and went for the new phone hardware coming out and bumped it up to OS 7, leaving us hanging off the cliff - this, BTW, was only about 8 months after the release of the 9800... dropped like a hot potato. BB easily could have still provided a 6.1 with some of the new UI enhancements we were clamoring for that had nothing to do with the new hardware, but they chose to just ignore us.

How many major OS updates does Apple give their in-market phones before finally dropping them? My wife's iPhone 3G started out with iPhone OS 2, but ended it's life with 4.2 before she got the iPhone 4. Her current iPhone 5 started with 6, has 7 now, and will get 8.

If you mean that BB is starting to support their phones with more OS updates over a longer period of time? Then maybe so and that's a good thing, but we are still within the same overall version number - 10.
