After relying on BB to upgrade from 10.2 to 10.3 I took a leap with the autoloader.
Boy, what a blessing The OS looks so sweet and brilliant

In a few days I will be switching from Z10 to Z30. Do you know if it would be possible to back up and restore on Z30? Or do you think it would be wise to use autoloader for Z30 to upgrade on 10.3.1.1016? Someone must have experienced it ... Please share.

You'd want to do an autoloader on the Z30 to upgrade it then a backup/restore of your own data from phone to phone with Link.

I have seen that full restore is often not a good idea in such cases. I can download the apps separately, but it'd be nice to restore contacts, bookmarks, etc.

I moved from a Z10 to a Z30 using the device switch built into Link when running IS 10.2. I don't think running a newer OS would change how well this worked.

FYI the device switch essentially is a wizard based backup and restore.

This is what I did when I upgraded to Z30 as well - worked great and I haven't had any issues. I've been keeping up to date with leaks non-destructively as well.

So ... basically ... I should use the autoloader on Z30 and then use switch device from Z10 to Z30. This should restore most of the things on the new device ... contacts, etc. Am I getting it right?

You could use the autoloader if you wish. I personally would prefer to have them the same OS revision for the cut over.
BlackBerry Link will move all your stuff over. Apps, settings, etc.

well ... it took me a while to understand the process of reverting back to 10.2
if anyone needs it doing ... and still fumbling like I did ...
    - security wipe
    - get OS 10.2 autoloader from BB or other hosting sites (from the BB server, the download speed sucks)
    - run the uploader with the device connected and BB Link closed
    - the device would get 10.2 and then the software update would get you to the latest official version
    - use backup restore from BB Link if you have saved it before (like I did)
I am back now to 10.2.1.2977.

The next step would be to use the device switch with Z30 and then backup before fiddling with z30 10.3 autoloader .... fingers crossed.

Just an observation: "backup and restore" messes up the accounts setup. I have found it easier to delete all the accounts (FB, whatsapp, Gmail, etc.) and start over.
