Nobody knows. It's not Z3 support, that's 10.2.1.2500 and up.

My entirely unfounded guess is that 10.2.2 is the features of 10.3 without the new UI, and that 10.3.0.140 is just a proof of concept release.

Or it's mostly 10.2.1 but with some usability updates sprinkled about (a MR).

Or it's the new device support branch (Classic/Windermere/Ontario/Khan/Dev Alpha X).

    Like I said, I don't know.

I think it's pretty much reasonable that the later builds of 10.2.1 would be maintenance releases. But I'm worried if there there's really a 10.2.2 branch and a 10.3 branch, then it must mean they are maintaining two separate teams... wonder if that'll slow down development.

I also hope this won't imply that some devices are too weak for 10.3 and therefore 10.2.2 was made.

On such a complex project you wouldn't expect a company to focus all effort on the one branch.

Also take into consideration that the leak 10.3.0.140 was made in early February. We are now in the first week of April. I'm sure there have been much improvement.

Yes, a lot of optimisation had to be undertaken so BlackBerry 10 runs smoothly on lower-specced devices and this has to be achieved in time for Jakarta which will more than likely not be on the 10.3 release.

They have always worked on OSes in different branches. Remember the 10.1MR and 10.2 was worked on at the same time.
The last time I talked to my BB contact, he did confirm that 10.3 was going to be released in October, most likely with Ontario. This more than likely means that we will get our hands on a semi-decent OS by late June, early July
However, he did also say that Jakarta (late April), and other low end devices that may come before then will have 10.2.1MR/10.2.2. There will not be major changes to current 10.2.1, though he did assure me 10.3 will be packed with awesome features.
As far as plans in BB goes, all current BB10 devices will get updates even after 10.3, supposedly to either QNX10 or QNX11 etc. Essentially the OS will be rebranded so licensing is a possibility, though this step has not been initiated yet.

Didn't John Chen say Z3 will come with 10.2.1, I don't know why people still think it will come with 10.3.X.XXXX . It's not going to happen until the next high end device is released.

I guess it's like iOS, that the old devices will not be left out BUT the performance will take a hit. For example, you can update iPhone 4 with iOS 7 (which I did for my uncle) and it works fine but it is laggy as expected. If 10.3 is released and is available for low-end devices such as the Q5, there should be no complaining that 10.3 has made it laggy, it's expected to become laggy. New OS' require better specs. Those are my thoughts.

10.2.2 is the "Classic" branch of the OS. It is for the Q20 and has Belt support.
