Hi I have a corp BES blackberry, with only the work-side enabled.

I am on the latest OS but when i try to open an .apk file it tells me "cannot open filename.apk". I figure its because the android runtime doesn't work on the wrok only side. Am I correct?

Is there any way to get an android app running then? Would converting it to a .bar help, or it still needs android runtime?

    Thanks in advance

You are correct, no runtime on work side

Would APKs converted to BARs work then?

If not where other than the appstore can I find BAR files that were meant for BB10 and do not require android runtime?

Does anyone know if APKs converted to BARs work without android runtime?

It is still an android app, just has a wrapper on it. It still needs the runtime.

Posted by my device of choice. Might be a BlackBerry, might not be. It is of concern to you.

    Thanks MobileMadness002,

Is there a way when I have downloaded a .bar to know whether it is native or android based? Also is there a repository to download .bar native files? The app store is blocked on my BES phone.

If the store is blocked by policy, installing apps from unknown sources will be blocked too. You can try to Sachesi to sideload apps, but I don't think there are any stores like Playstore where you can download the bar files to your computer.

PS. I would be cautious loading ANYTHING not provided by the company IT department.

Sachesi, will not work unless your administrator has allowed development mode. I am a BES administrator, there are two things in play
    1) Allow development mode
    2) Allow apps to be installed from other sources.

Nothing will work without the two options.
