When trying to connect my Z10 to the DDPB on a Windows 8 computer I get the error that says "'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command" even though I installed JRE already. Can anyone help me solve this? Its very much appreciated!

Thanks for this, Reiger! I was having the same issue with trying to launch DDPB from a Windows 8 PC. For me, the Java bin folder was in the "Program Files" folder and not in the "Program Files x86" folder, but otherwise the workaround worked exactly as advertised!

I have no clue what a JRE is. I'm trying to use DDPB to get more apps and I get the error Java is not recognized as an internal or external command.

So I went to the Youtube link that seemed to be working for everyone, I get stuck right after Program Files. I don't have a Program Files x86 nor do I have a Java file.

I did a search on the entire comp and found nothing like that. Helllpp lol

    Thank you!

JRE stands for Java Runtime Environment. If you are using a 32bit Operating system, then download the 32bit version , but if your operating system is 64bit, then download both the 32bit version and the 64bit version

This would likely be because you're using a 32-bit version of Windows. 64-bit versions have two Program Files folders: Program Files for 64-bit applications, and Program Files (x86) for 32-bit applications. This is for compatibility behind the scenes since Windows has some conversion to do on these to work with the slightly different instruction set they need.

Try removing Java and re-installing the version from http://www.ninite.com which will remove any bloatware Oracle tries to give with it. Also, be sure to have all of your browsers closed when you're installing as Java will try to install a web plugin (that you'll generally want to keep disabled) as well and your install may hang if the browser is open.

After it's installed, to make sure it's working, open a command prompt and type: java -version You should get the version number that was installed.
