This is what I have, under Settings > Security.

My 'lock screen' is set to 'Password' and I've set it to automatically lock after 5 minutes. You can also set an option that says 'power button instantly locks'

Maybe try try looking at that second option with regards to how quickly the device locks. The phone will unlock without entering a password if it's within the specified time.
