I've pushed power/lock plus volume-down but the only thing that happens is it asks if i want to power-off/restart/lock.
There must be some Android setting that i've stumbled over that's preventing this, but what?

try power down and hold for a bit longer.
To make it simpler you could install the free BlackBerry Notable app which let's you swipe down from the top of any screen and use its Capture function.
Notable installed from the get go but ya you need to hold both buttons down aty the same time for a few seconds
Is this in a specific program or general like your homescreen. The former can prevent this like in DRM secure apps.
I couldn't figure it out either so i ended up using notable
it's Power + Down Volume at the same time that triggers the screenshot
anyone knows of a way or a good app to capture screenshots continuously to botoom of the page or app?
Friend, had the problem for two months couldn't figure it out. Realized i bought a new case (Seidio). It has two layers, rubbers and hard shell. During installation, I unintentionally shifted the volume pressure points on the case towards the middle of the volume keys, ever so slighlty but made a difference. No more screenshots. Didn't know at the time. Disassembled the two layers, testing screen shot with every removal. Found the problem with the case after removing rubber section and taking a screenshot. Re-aligned case volume pressure point to bottom of volume key. now works. When problem started, a screenshot attempt would display volume control details and no snapshot. If you have a case try removing and taking a "naked" (screenshot), if it works then you found the problem. I do like the notable suggest tho. I'll try that to swipe a shot and see how it works. May add it to a conveniece key. cheers!
