I sent a message to one of my contacts and when I sent it, it came up with a red exclamation point where the D and/or R normally are. Then when I looked up at the contacts status it reads: :Last read on Nov. 29th, 2017 in red. What does this mean?

Presumably because there was an error in sending. Which device/OS?

This is an iPhone? You might get better info on an iPhone forum. Or are you using a Blackberry and this problem only happens when sent to an iPhone?
I have the bbm messenger for IPhone app. I am not sure what he has...if he has a Blackberry or an app for the messenger.
I am curious what the caption " Last read on Nov. 29th, 2017" means under his contact name where it usually reads "available"....
BBM changes every other day these days. They recently added improved timestamps, so probably that or maybe it's just BBM being buggy. Clearly, you're having some issues if you can't send messages. Try deleting and re-installing if you're still having issues.
But I believe this has been for quite some time.
If a certain of time has passed since the contact opened their BBM or have deleted it from their phones for that matter, it sorta shows their last seen.

Is this red exclamation point and time stamp because of his phone and/or app? ( Because I have not done anything on my end...No deletion, changes to phone, etc.)
