Try downloading the Nova Launcher off of Snap. It's gonna simulate an Android home screen. From the app, go to the settings, and check the network settings.
See if the wifi is off.

the android apps that use the internet should work without any special config, or am I missing something? All of my android apps that use the internet work without any problem.
They should work without a problem but an app could have shut it off and being that there is no android settings built-in you have to download the app to have a android settings menu to turn it back on
