I have removed the battery for 4 hours. When it reboot it only brings up the logo and then it hangs. Is there a way to boot it with only the basic functions luck safe mode?

No ...no safe mode.
Looks like you need to reload your OS. Hook it up to a box with BlackBerry Link and Reload the OS.
Hopefully you have a backup you could restore from after.
