On my Motion every time I use the convenience key, it opens the setting app in the background which stays open even after I am done using the convenience key or if I push it a second time to hide the apps and shortcuts I have programed to it. I end up having to close the Settings app every time I use the convenience key. Why does it do that? Is that normal?

Does it still happen if you have nothing configured for the convenience key?
Try clearing out all of the convenience key's function. Test. If settings app doesn't start, then re-map the button to your app/shortcut.
