    It may be your first BlackBerry, but you have been around the forum long enough to understand why a unique ID is necessary.

    Have you had Android or iPhone? Those also require registration. The reason is so you can keep track of all your downloads and app purchases and transfer them over in case you ever upgrade your phone.

    The same reason you need an apple id for iPhone, Google account for android and BlackBerry id for BlackBerry. It's to associate all sorts of services to your device.
