Why can't my Blend connect if VPN is active?

I use Private Internet Access (PIA) VPN.
I understand that PIA does not support BB10.

How does this interfere with Blend?
My Z10 can't communicate with my PC when the PIA is active. This is not the case once I disconnect PIA.
If the connection from phone to PC is WiFi or USB, why/how should this be a problem?

I guess i don't understand how VPNs work :(

PIA is encrypting your data and making it look like you're connected to a different network than your BlackBerry. That's why.
