As a new BlackBerry user I would really love to learn why BlackBerry is more secure. I've personally done some research but just couldn't get a comprehensive answer. Since Sony was hacked just recently and they are turning to blackberry for help, I'd like to know what essentially makes BlackBerry less vulnerable to attacks. Are the BlackBerry devices that we use today the same and theoretically bulletproof as they were before during 9/11? For example I use a passport on att, which obviously isn't BlackBerry own network, does this mean it's pretty much the same as all other devices out there except being in a more secure local environment?

Thanks and sorry for sound so ignorant.

If we ignore BES, then the only real advantage that BlackBerry has is that the OS has so far been proven unrootable.

Apps on BlackBerry World are fairly well vetted and are reliably secure, and Android apps are sandboxed.
