I use the radio on the Z30. I am pretty new to this too had this for only a few days so far. My Z30 has no sim card no data plan i use it only with my wireless internet device.
It needs two things. While it dows NOT need internet or data to use the radio to work, i found i have to turn the network button on briefly so it can figure out where you are and find the reachable stations. But then you can turn it back off if you want it off.
Meanwhile it needs an ANTENNA to be a radio, and it tells you this can be your headphone line. Since i dont use headphones but an external speaker system i plug that in and it works.
