Why am I getting error messages when I try to connect to the BBM on my Passport?

can't connect BBM to my new passport. Message is: BBM has lost its connection. Please wait while server attempts to reconnect.

Then it never connects. Any suggestions?

do a hard reset, holding the volume buttons untill it reboots
