Select your contact and text them. Text messaging works on all platforms

Wait a second... are you saying that even on an iPhone you don't understand basic text messaging?
Talk about being locked into an ecosystem!

As stated above, just text. But coming from an Iphone, you will need to remove your number from the imessage system. Also have your iPhone contacts remove you from their imessage contacts. If you don't do that, you will have problems receiving text messages from iphone users. There's a link somewhere here to the Apple system to do this. I'm sure someone will chime in shortly with the proper information. Oh, and welcome to the club!

Just turn off imessage on your iPhone and you will be good. And you don't have to tell anyone to do any changes on their end.

Edit add (Meant as a reply to J Vieira's previous post)........
First off, i should be commended for leaving the herd, i have no complaints toward iPhone, but BB has called my name for a while and this is a perfect time. I know quite a lot about what to do with iMessage and the like, but thanks to those who have provided advice, i know it will help others. What BB people might not be aware of is that when you have had other devices and haven't been around BB for a while if ever, is that when you see terms like BB10, BBM, Link, Messenger and on and on then you think that it isn't as easy as to just simply "text" through sms from a BB to other devices outside of that system. It was rumored for a long time that BBM had to be loaded on iPhones and Android devices just to send texts. iPhone and Android users who know nothing about BB do have a learning curve for sure. I personally think it's worth it.
Really now?

You should be commended? No.
You should breathe a sigh of relief you finally escaped, that's what.
It's totally your fault you stuck with garbage for that long.
Secondly, if people are saying that you have to have BBM installed and stuff, it's clearly bad information.
To be fair, that can be mostly attributed to Apple's marketing, and Blackberry's lack of marketing.
But to not know that any basic phone, including flip phones can text, that's just a lack of basic knowledge.
I feel like getting a flip phone just to blow iphone users minds!
"Should be commended"
Up yours and around the corner!

Texting works cross platform so you should have no problems texting iphone and android users and any smartphone and simple phone but please make sure to turn off Imessage to make sure that all texts from iPhone users come in to you and to explain BBM is not like imessage BBM is more similar to whatsapp

Glad to have you.
Ignore the heathens, they have been in the BlackBerry cave too long..hihi.
All platforms and ecosystems have their pluses and minuses. And many of us use multiple platforms daily. No need to start a cat fight.
Enjoy your BlackBerry and BlackBerry 10.

Jeez, I didn't mean to start anything up. Just a simple question to get some support and all that happens is sarcasm and judgement. Sorry i posted. No not everyone is a BB College graduate........
Other than two other users that might of offended you that shouldn't make you upset just relax and enjoy the ride. Ask questions if you need to. There's plenty of people that can help you out. One thing I recommend is to do the tutorials.

And read all that you can about your new phone. Knowing the information or finding it yourself is extremely gratifying.
I guess the people was just misunderstanding. But to be honest I did that too. I mean your question was a bit frustrated. I guess you know and everyone knows in the whole world for ages now that a simple SMS is cross platform even if you have a Nokia 3310. More to the topic now... if you were using WhatsApp or Viber you can use them with blackberry too plus you can use SMS and blackberry messenger witch is available for iPhone android and windows phone too. so communication with blackberry and other devices is not an issue. Since you were used with iPhone more it's going take a while till you start getting used to a BlackBerry device. I guess the only.issue is the luck of apps bit even this is solved by be able to download android apps. Don't hesitate to ask anything in the forum and to search things about your new device Cheers and welcome(i was an iphone User too before 3 days I migrate to the world of blackberry and im.still getting used to it but I love it)
