I have a z10 and it died. we found out that the charging port has 2 broken prongs and was stopping it from starting. I am unable to back it up. I was given another z10 with broken screen. I can change the motherboard but what will I lose.

You might be able to get it all working, it SOUNDS like the broken parts on each device won't effect the memory. As long as you use the motherboard from your original device it SHOULD in theory retain its info.
Try charging the battery in the phone with the brolen screen and then put it inside the one with the charfing port defect.
If you change the logic board, you will also change everything on the memory, as the memory is oldered onto the logic board.
IF he wants the info he'll need the board from his original device. Additionally there are lots of places this can go south, ribbon cables that could break, other broken parts OR that break from the repair. I would not even try this UNLESS you are handy at repair of electronics!
