Is there an app that can do that? I would then place the icon on the homescreen and just tap that to lock the screen. Pressing the on/off button just feels uncomfortable to me.

If you have a Q10 and one of the leaks you just need to hold the "K" button on the keyboard!
I think these shortcuts are only available on 10.3 and above.

you could always turn the display settings down to so it will turn the screen off sooner.
