I currently have a Moto E 2nd gen, and use it exclusively offline to run applications. I do this by sideloading the APKs.

I am looking for a fancier Android device, and am wondering if the DTEK50 would be suitable for this purpose. Does it require a network connection to operate?

If not, is this a plausible way to go, or a dumb idea?

I'm aware of other upgrade possibilities like the Moto G.

Does the specialized DTEK50 software still have benefits for an offline user?

It's an Android device. There's nothing special over your Moto E that it needs to operate and will operate in the same manner. It'll just be nicer and faster.
