I'm just about buying Passport locally on Craigslist.
I only want the one brand new comes with receipt.
So I can get the warranty.
I can do that, can't I? How??
On some thread here I saw the warranty is not transferable.

Yea but this type of purchase normally includes your name or not especially online sopping.
Warranty IS non-transferable, that's correct. Plus they may be able to look up the purchase details for the phone, and who registered it, which could be a problem if the original owner did.
If it's a phone originally sold by a carrier, then you'd have to go through the carrier for warranty. And I don't think they'd entertain a non-customer.
What if the phone was given as a gift? How does the warranty work?
It'd be same thing if I buy the ones box never even been opened yet with receipt, right?
I'm guessing that a gift indicated as a gift purchase allows for some leeway when purchasing. But it would be best to consult the original seller (ShopBB/Amazon) on this.
Double check to confirm if registered or not. If not you are good. You gifted it to yourself.

Another thought.....will SquareTrade warranty it if BlackBerry will not and at what price? You can negotiate that into purchase if so.
