    Hi to all,

I have just purchased a BB Classic, my first Blackberry for a few years and certainly my first BB10 os device. Anyway, I have side loaded Snap and installed a couple of Android apps which work just fine but I can't get a banking app to work. It installs ok and an icon appear but when I go to open it shows the banks splash screen then shuts down. My guess is that it's a security thing for the bank but does anybody know of a work around. It might be that I'm missing a trick here being the noob that I am.

If it helps, I'm based in UK and the app is Barclays Online Banking.

    Thanks in advance

    David

I feel your pain, I use US Bank in the United States, like Barclays, also a very large bank, and still no app that works well without crashing. Man U or Chelsea? Or Liverpool?

You might need to patch it if it is an Android app. Check out the first posts in all of Cobalt's threads.

I find that with one of my banks, adding their mobile site to my homescreen is actually a better option than using the available app. With another, I use Keeper, which gives me quick and secure access to the bank's mobile site as well as that of other web-based personal accounts where a password is required (only have to remember one master password for multiple password protected accounts).

    Hi David

Unfortunately Barclays UK are not interested in making a BB10 app - I have asked repeatedly and always get the same response.

We did used to be able to use a certain version of the Android apk app but they have now blocked this as they have a restrictive rule that no 'rooted' devices can run the Barclays app and unfortunately the Android runtime shows to them as rooted so it doesn't work.

They appear to be the only bank that had this rule so those of use who bank with them and use a BB10 device are out of luck.

Sorry for be the bearer of bad news but I'm sure you will enjoy the Classic nonetheless.

    Regards
    Woody

Simply go to there mobile Web site. Tap the 3dot, -> Add to home screen ...Voila!
You'll have it to your home screen in a similar way then any apps does. When in it, if your bank have a decent mobile site, you will event feel your using an apps.
Whenever you have an app or web access, banking application transactions and account funds datas are web based so not much difference here.. you need a Web access
+ no longer need to update that apps
+ no usage of your phone internal storage
+ Nothing resident in your phone that may open opportunities for someone to grab your critical datas (especially Android apps)

Thank you everyone for your comments and help. I have done as DStLouis had suggested. I didn't think it would be possible without using their card reader but the bank allows customers to choose a password system for mobile browser login so thank you again.

Here's the thing, I have been using Android for a few years now and I admit that I do like it a lot. I am however pretty agnostic as far as OS's go and as long as they work then I'm happy. I was drawn to the Classic because it looks like a quality piece of hardware and I did like my old Bold 9900 and Curve 9xxx keyboards. I like security and privacy too.

My first impressions of the Classic are mixed. On the one hand there's no denying that it really is a solid device and feels very good in my hand. That keyboard is just wonderful. On the other hand I am finding it a little frustrating to use because of things like banking and printing. Also the OS doesn't seem logically laid out to me but before anyone jumps out at me screaming 'Android fan boy!!!!', I have only had the Classic in my possession for a few days and I'm still on that steep learning curve.

I really want to like this device and as I'm finding out, there are some credible work arounds to the little issues I've come across. I'm actually really impressed with the camera too which surprises me because most pro reviews I've read and watched on YouTube don't seem to rate it very well. I like it for two reasons, firstly the picture quality it produces and secondly, being able to hold the device comfortably and securely while using the track pad as focus and shutter is inspiring a confidence that the touch screen Android device never really did. I guess this will mean that I will use the camera all the more and in turn more pictures (memories) will be captured.

These are my initial (disjointed) thoughts about the Classic but if you were to ask me if I'm glad I got hold of this device then my answer would have to be a very certain 'Oh Yeah!!!!'

Yeah I've set up banking through the browser now thanks. It's not as neat as the app but it's perfectly functional and that's all it needs to be. The Android app didn't work at all.

Enjoy the classic. Great phone, and the layout is sometimes less intuitive but coming from android it can't be any worse! Remember to use the 'help' app if you have a hard time finding some settings, it's extremely detailed and very helpful.

You will also find using the BlackBerry assistant very helpful to search right away from the homescreen. Just start typing what you want to find and it will quickly search through the device and offer suggestions like Web search or app search

Has Barclays got a telephone line to access your account? That's one of the ways I manage.

Thanks again for all your suggestions. I'm accessing my bank using their mobile website so the problem is resolved now.

A day further into Blackberry Classic ownership and a bit more familiarity with it and I'm really starting to see how great this device is. The OS is lightning fast and I'm staring to get my head around the whole gesture thing. This is one powerful tool and any mixed impressions I had initially are really starting to fade.
