Hello all,
For those of you who are currently purchasing a BlackBerry Plan, we have some good news to share. Following some changes to how we pay for your BlackBerry Service, we will soon be able to offer it to you at our standard goodybag prices. In addition to this news, we would also like to keep you up to date on some changes which are being made to the inclusive roaming allowance on BlackBerry.
BlackBerry Plans are currently available for any member who has a BlackBerry 7 device, or older. They come with the same minutes, text and data allowances as our standard goodybags, but in addition they also come with unlimited access to BlackBerry Services such as Emails and BlackBerry Messenger, as well as up to 10MB of BlackBerry roaming each day.
As of 1st April 2015, BlackBerry Services will work with any standard 3G goodybag, so members will no longer need to purchase a separate BlackBerry Plan and will therefore save 2.50 a month. In addition, all members will be able to activate and de-activate BlackBerry Services from their My giffgaff page at any time, making the service more flexible than before.
We have also been investigating how the inclusive BlackBerry roaming allowance is being used and have unfortunately found that due to extremely high roaming costs in some parts of the world it is not sustainable in its current form. For this reason, we have been carrying out some detailed analysis to understand how we can maintain maximum value for members whilst also managing the associated costs of BlackBerry roaming.
All of this analysis has come together to paint a very clear picture of what to do next we have found that the vast majority of BlackBerry roaming takes place in the EU, where there is the lowest risk of excessive roaming costs. A far smaller proportion is used outside of the EU, where the risk is far higher. For this reason, in order to maintain maximum value for members, we will continue to offer 10MB of free daily BlackBerry roaming within the EU and in order to ensure that this offer remains sustainable, the roaming allowance will no longer be valid in other parts of the world from 1st April 2015.
The overall impact of these changes should be more flexibility and better value for giffgaff members. We have tried to answer some of the questions that you might have about this below:
I am recurring a BlackBerry Plan, what will happen next?
Dont worry, if you are recurring a BlackBerry Plan then we will automatically change your recurring settings to a standard 3G goodybag. BlackBerry Services will continue to work just as they did before, but you will be saving 2.50 per month.
I am queuing a BlackBerry Plan, what will happen next?
There will be no changes to your queued BlackBerry Plan - when your current BlackBerry Plan expires, the next one will automatically be activated on your account.
I am roaming outside of the EU, what services are available for me?
You will still be able to use your phone for calls and text messages and you will also be able to use data which is not being used on BlackBerry Services at our data normal roaming prices.
Does this mean I can use BlackBerry with 4G?
The BlackBerry Service is made for BlackBerry 7 devices or earlier and so its not compatible with 4G. However, once you get a 4G ready device, you will be able to remove BlackBerry Services from your account at any time via My giffgaff.
