Is there a way to record voice notes like the classic looks like there's and option on one of the keys, I know I can go into reminder app to do it is that only way? I'm using BlackBerry Passport silver edition

No in-built voice notes recorder except in the Remember app.

You can record voice notes within the text messaging app.

Simply open an empty text message, tap the paper clip for attachments... tap voice note. When you're finished then tap done. Your voice note is saved in the voice folder on your device.

You can also send voice notes directly through BBM to other BBM contacts.
