Did you used to have an iPhone? If so you need to unregister your number from iMessage.

Kevin, are your kids messaging your phone number or Apple/iMessage ID?

Since I mainly use my Blackberry Q10, should I turn off I Message? Would I then receive them on my Q10?

Yes, that's one possible solution. Also, are the outbound texts on your kids' phones from them to you showing up as blue or green?

On my wife's iPhone, they are blue.

Texts she is sending to you are blue? If so, that means they are going to iMessage.

OK. So try things in this order:

    1. On your iPad, turn off iMessage by going to Settings>Messages and turning the iMessage slider to off.
    2. If that doesn't work, try the solutions suggested here: https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage

I don't get the group texts from either my kids or my wife. But I do get direct texts from my wife.

Have them check that under Settings>Messages, 'Send as SMS when iMessage is unavailable' is turned on.

I turned off Messages and Face Time, as instructed. This didn't work. My son has the correct settings. The other option "if you no longer have your iPhone" (I never had one---just an ipad): type in your phone number (which I found in Settings/General/Cellular Date Number to deregister...should I? Will this affect anything else on my ipad?

Wait...so you found a phone number associated with iMessage?

    Maybe a 3G ipad?

Oh, I hadn't even thought of that. If that isn't it, you got any ideas short of the nuclear option, i.e. killing iMessage either on the OP's iPad or family's iPhones? I'm really hoping it doesn't come to that...

No--it is labeled "Cellular Date Number".

I think the trick might be to have your family members delete their entire text history with you. Then send them a text first. When they reply, it should go to your phone.

If it goes to your tablet, then it's the imessage issue.
