Today I noticed an unusual thing. My z10 was latch on to my home wifi. Then I turned on wired tethering.
Now the question is ...was the data used from cellular network or wifi?.

Wi-Fi, according to the indicator on the upper right of your screen.

Tethering always runs on cell data. I found this out when I had no service an di was on a PC without Wifi. Tethering wouldn't work because of no connection, despite the phone being on WiFi.

I agree. Hotspot and tethering routes data to and from the cellular connection.

    I do agree that.
But the icons on the top are quite confusing...

Only if you assume the icons are related to the tethering/hotspot. ;-)

hotspot can not be turned on when wifi is connected. But wired tethering can be turned on. So it's bit confusing.
