    I just bought a Z30. Was using a Q5.
Attempted to restore a backup through link onto the Z30. It didn't happen. Says software release is not supported. Saw under settings, Q5 is running 10.3.1.1779 and the Z30 is running 10.3.1.1767. I haven't ever faced this problem. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

You have to update the Z30's OS version. It needs to be higher than the Q5's one. You can not put a backup of a higher OS version on a lower one.

Didn't think you could do that as they are different devices. Assuming you are trying to restore a q5 backup onto a z30.

Tried the device switch app as well. Through WiFi, the phone could not be detected and through media card, it is just not restoring the data (I don't know why, not showing any error either)

There are two easy ways to fix this for you.
The first way is already identified - update the new Z30 to be anything at all higher than the Q series you had before.

The second way is a tiny bit trickier but not that hard: There is a file in your backup which can be edited to be something "less" than what you have on the Z30. Backups are normally stored on your PC as "My Documents\BlackBerry\Backup" and they end with .bbb

    The file is called "manifest.xml".

You can easily open a BlackBerry backup file with 7Zip ( 7-Zip ) and edit the text file to make it a smaller number than the current operating system on your phone. Save the changes and then re-open the backup as you tried to do already.

    Hope that helps!

sir i have downloaded 7 zip, located the backup file. when i right click on the backup file, there is already an option for 7-zip after which there are a whole load of other options like Open archive, extract files here etc. what should i do from there ?

Hi there - sorry for the late reply.

On CrackBerry here there are several articles that can explain it better than I can - even with pictures.
This article helps: Dear Berry: How do I restore a backup after downgrading my OS? | CrackBerry.com

Just remember that you want to edit the file so that the number there is smaller than the one on your phone.
