Yesterday for no apparent reason the colour scheme in messages changed, the font is now different and there are subtle changes to the screen and font layout. Has anyone else found this and how can I get back my old screen format? All contact colours in messages have changed to pastel colours which I don't like though when you look at the same contacts in the contacts list their colours are different and more like the old colour scheme, though still subtly different somehow.

That's due to the update to the Google Android Messages app. If you want different colours for each contact you'll either have to roll back to the previous version or switch to one of the many other apps. I've switched back to Textra, where customization per contact is still a thing.
