The second time I installed the sim into my 1 week old passport the device failed to read the sim. After having it checked out by a local mobile phone repair shop they advised two pins were missing. Nothing else had been inserted into the sim slot. Anyone have any idea if the sim reader is replaceable / fixable or does this render the device unfixable?

    Hi Peter Margetic !

Definitely fixable (by a professional), but as your passport is brand new, I'd check with the seller and ask for guarantee. Unless you've played the dangerous game of "I cut my Micro Sim to make it nano" (or anything causing your guarantee to fail), this weakness is not expected on a brand new device.

Doing it yourself is feasable yet a bit of a risk, unless you're familiar with components and soldering. This is not a "hot plug replacable" part. Plus, you have to find a replacement part; I've searched for it but wasn't able to find it. May take a while before it hits the aftermarket ...
