I find it pretty annoying to close e.g. the hub. Since you have to start swiping on the physical keyboard, you cannot avoid scrolling multiple messages down before you close the hub. The same thing with other apps incl. the browser. Is there a way to prevent th scrolling before swiping?

I had this issue in the beginning, you can swipe from just above the silver bar above the top row of keys to swipe up, no need to touch the keyboard. Takes a bit of practice to get into the habit.

Try learning and using the keyboard commands. For example, pressing N scrolls to the next area of messages(scrolls up) . Pressing P scrolls up to more recent messages.
Don't just rely on touch gestures. Open up assistant and type in Keyboard Shortcuts and tap Help. Then you are taken to a VERY helpful section.

How about swiping from the right bezel to get back to home from within the hub?

Yes, that works very well after some training.
