There is NO chat app that will work with your 9790.

    SMS.
I suspect SMS isn't "free" in his market.

In the end it's 2021 not 2011... The older messenger services like Kik, Viber, Line and Whatsapp have most all lost their access with BBOS. The newer ones never needed to support BBOS....

Only option might be using Opera Mini browser and try to use FaceBook or Twitter web interface... as a work around. @Shuswap might know of a way

Well, there just might be a solution, but I haven't tried it myself, because I've done a clean install with no account in order to prepare for the looming server shutdown.

The app was mentioned a few weeks ago by a user on reddit. See the bottom of this thread: https://old.reddit.com/r/blackberry/...d_9790_for_30/

It's called Hookt. It's apparently available in BlackBerry World: https://appworld.blackberry.com/webs...ode=CA&lang=en

It's also available for Android in the Play Store.

So there you have it. It's 2021 and there may still be a cross-platform messenger out there for the 9790.

    Found an OTA: http://c.airg.ca/bbinstall/6.0.0/Hookt.jad

I stand corrected - hopefully the OP finds Hookt useful!

I can confirm that Hookt works for messaging, without BIS. I installed the app on my 9900 and iPhone and messages go back and forth fine, despite the fact that the app grumbled a little bit on installation (some kind of error message) and then wanted to update, which failed. There was no file at the OTA address provided for the update.

On iOS (and undoubtedly Android too) there's a whole social network interface that the BlackBerry may not be able to access completely. I'm not sure about that. But the messaging part works properly.

The other thing is that the app uses your phone number as your Account ID. You may or may not like that, especially given the outdated TLS on the Bold. On the positive side, the app appears to allow you to delete your account and all associated information (that's what they say anyways).

I'll be adding a link to the Bold Explorer site.
