I am thinking of buying new BB 9720, but what I cannot find anywhere on forums is answer to the question:
To run the preinstalled email client on BB, do I need BIS (Blackberry Internet Service)?
My mobile network operator tells me that no. He says I can run the email client and use it with my email accounts (via POP or IMAP) on gmail, yahoo etc.
All I need is "internet connection plan" - which I already have.
But what I learned from various sources about BB OS 7.1 is that some applications dont run without BIS.

    Can anybody help me, please?

    Welcome to CrackBerry!

For emails you definitely do need BIS for the BB 9720 (BlackBerry previous operating system - BBOS).

    You don't need BIS for BlackBerry new operating system 10 (BB10) i.e. Z3, Z10, Z30, Q5, Q10, and Passport.

Search the web for an app called LogicMail
I have that running fine as a POP email 3rd party client on my daughter's BlackBerry Curve 9720 legacy device without BIS.
