I found old posts on the possibility of connecting external devices to the Playbook (OS using USB OTG adapter.
Is there any news about it?
Or is there any alternative solution?
For instance I would like to connect my camera (not WiFi enabled) to the PB.

Yeah before when you could root a PlayBook it was possible.

And there were signs that drivers had been added in OS2.1, but I think most PlayBook development got diverted to BB10 as it was suppose to be an update for the PlayBook too. But when that fell through I think BlackBerry just issued some security patches and wrote the PlayBook off.

This cannot be done. At one point (long, long ago and far, far away) it was determined by someone here on CB that the Playbook had this capability but it was never enabled. The Playbook support has been discontinued for ages now so there is zero possibility of connecting anything in the manner that you are hoping for.
