[CrackBerry Question]

i broke my screen, replaced it. putting the phone back together broke the keyboard
ordered another one didnt work.
long story short i found the phone the other day bought a new key pad put it together and it all works.

remembered my password by a stroke of luck but it still wont let me passed the lock bbid screen

Q1: do i need data connection in order to get past the bbid screen ?

Q2: is there any other way to get through this security screen other than wiping the phone id really love to recover everything off the phone.
