Can an old blackberry curve be activated on a current phone line and work without a blackberry data plan?
I found my old Curve and want to give it to my son to use to make calls and use the Internet. Would that be possible in 2019 with this phone?

The Curve 8530 was a CDMA device, and if it wasn't activated already neither Sprint nor Verizon would activate it, since it predates LTE. If you want to try it on another carrier, you can't, since it lacks support for anything other than CDMA.

Moreover, even if you were to get it activated the necessary BIS services for the Curve 8530 are not long for this world, even if a carrier is still keeping it around for now. Trying it without BIS is an exercise in jumping from WiFi hotspot to WiFi hotspot, assuming the antediluvian software on the 8530 can still connect to and use the Internet ten years after release.
