I only have 4G coverage on my Classic. It's a UAE region Classic. I went to Kingston ny which is a 1.5 hour drive north of NYC and I had LTE coverage!! Not sure why I wouldn't have in the city.

My tmobile branded q10 had LTE coverage no problem fyi.

T-Mobile uses 1900mhz and 1700mhz frequencies for LTE, your Classic only has 1900mhz while the Q10 had both.
If the coverage in the area for LTE is 1700mhz, you wont get LTE.

EDIT: Oops, missed the 700mhz shared. But I believe the lower frequencies are more used in rural areas with larger gaps in tower coverage, as that signal travels farther.

TMO uses three bands for LTE--rather two that are more operational than the third--bands 4, 2 and 12. Your Classic has band 2, but not band 4. Your Q10 has both bands 2 and 4, which would ensure greater LTE coverage as band 4 is TMO's main LTE band.
