no gmail service...why doesn't gmail love me

cloned a new to me 9700 as the previous was loved to death....
a week or so after, it just stopped getting mail...
I deleted and attempted to recreate the gmail acct...got wrong password or user name.....
On to the laptop,,,on to gmail....google says something about attempted account traffic, then something about a security liability...will I accept reduced security...or something to that effect....still no joy
I like having e-mail so I know can track some delivery activity...and it's handy for work, as e-mail is the app of choice for many things...
Any help you can offer would be appreciated....
I am shopping for a newer BB but i would ,like to resolve this...

Have you tried setting up an app password for your 9700?
