Go to Settings > Display and toggle off "Show wallpaper when all apps are closed". That should do it.

BB10 is not structured to allow widget type placement on the home pages. It's not like Android that way. You can only have app icons. There may be a clock app that has decent active frame support that will show the current time when it is minimized, but I'll have to look into it.

You can do as Ellesar.cm suggests, to fill your home page with app icons, instead of displaying your wallpaper when all apps are closed, but that's about it.
