Currently using an iPhone 5 and have been using iOS devices for a few years. I don't play many games and would rather use my phone to get things done. Have always heard good things about Blackberry, but never tried it out.

Is the Classic a good place to start that's new?

I'm concerned(slightly, but still so) about compatibility. What was it like when you switched over?

    Thanks for your time.

If you can afford a Passport and get your hands on one, I'd do that. The Z30 or Q10 would be an excellent starter choice. I'm using a Z30 and I love it. The on screen typing experience is second to none.

While the Classic is using the most modern OS that BlackBerry has, the others will get it soon. The Classic was purpose built to entice current BlackBerry Bold users to upgrade because it includes the trackpad. This is not really consistent with the experience BlackBerry intended when they invented OS 10 which is a true gesture based OS. The Passport is an exception because of the additional real estate allocated to the keyboard and its newly invented capacitive touch sensitive keys which allow for scrolling as if the whole keyboard was a mouse.

There is plenty of research that can be done on this website regarding all of the modern devices. All of them run Android apps so the app gap is now quite small. Nothing essential to me is missing anyhow.

Good luck in your search. I suspect you'll find the BlackBerry Q10, Z30, Passport and the Classic a real upgrade from the iPhone 5.

Currently using a Passport and love it. That device is not for everyone, i am a pretty big dude with large hands so i can manage with it. My best friend just bought a classic today and it is amazing, its just a shame its basically a Q10 with a belt. My best bet for you coming from an iphone would be to give the Z30 a try and maybe the passport. Right now those are the best BlackBerry has to offer, physical keyboard and all touch.

Passport is probably more your style. Classic is more if a throwback to people still holding onto BB7 phones. One handed usability will be much better on the classic though.

I would think that a Z10 (STL100-3 or 4) would be a better choice for an iPhone user. Similar size and the ability to load the 10.3.1.2072 auto loader leak on the device when new would put it current on OS. It's currently running on my wife's Z10 with no issues at all.

They can still be purchased new but are getting more difficult to find. Unlocked ATT versions are running about $200. She dropped her old Z10 right on the end with the mic and I bought her a new one last week. I tried to get her to go to the Z30, but no dice. She just loves the size of the Z10.

Me, I'm waiting for ATT to get the Passport so my Corporate Account Rep can get me a loaner to play with before I drop $600 on an Unlocked Version from shop.blackberry.com

Passport is much better option but remember that there won't be many applications like in IOS....

Thanks for the advice, folks. I took a look at some of the models you all recommended and I decided to try out the Classic. The Passport is too large for me, I don't care too much for keeping a touchscreen keyboard, and I think the Classic looks like it will fit comfortably in my hands. You bring up good points about Android app compatibility, so I'm not as concerned about that.

I should get the Classic by mail tomorrow. Can't wait to get work done and be a part of this user base.
