In importing contacts from 9930 to z30, I ended up with multiples of contacts. Is there a native or other utility that works best to merge contacts and delete duplicates?

Select and hold a contact, once the menu pops up, click on select more and then... well, select more contacts. Once you selected the desired ones, open the overflow menu and select link.
