woke up in the middle of the night, went to check time, phone screen completely black, was using like normal right before I went to sleep. The only sign of life I can get is if I take the battery out and plug it in via USB to a computer.
Any thoughts? I tended to save most stuff to my SD card, but I will still lose a lot of stuff if I wipe it. Doesn't RIM have a place to send things for fixing?

Charge the battery on a different phone or use the spare battery charger or new fully charged battery .

Then put it back in the z10 and start it up.

There was a previous OS version that almost bricked my z10 if you let the battery drain fully.

The fix above worked for me and so hope it works for you!

If it turns out it is not the battery, use link to reload the OS. You can also try to back up first but Prob won't work
