How do I get my backed up contacts from the old blackberry desktop software onto my new classic? My old bold phone is dead (red light won't stop flashing, battery won't charge, even a new one) and so can't use that as a connection between the 2.

Are your contacts synced with an email address?

shamefully I don't know. I just backed them up regularly onto the blackberry desktop software installed on my desktop.
Now I can't access them on the desktop software as it won't recognise the new classic. how can I extract them?

Find where the backup file is saved in your documents folder. Perhaps you could then import them via the backup portion in Link.

Can't find any blackberry backup in documents, it's only in the desktop software.

BBDTM does not store the contacts in itself, what were you syncing with? And don't say Desktop software. Were you using Microsoft Outlook?

did you happen to use blackberry protect on the old phone because it would've backed up your contacts and you do have an option to import on the new phone

Yes, BlackBerry protect is a solid option if you were using it as it allows a one time restore onto a bb10 device or run Link and restore from your old backup, you'll usually find it under program files in a folder called BlackBerry the sub folder is just labelled 'backups' I believe. YOU DON'T NEED YOUR BOLD TO NE ATTACHED.

Install link and sync. Bbdtm does not sync with os10 devices.

I don't have protect. I have installed link but my old bold is dead and won't work with it. How do I get to contacts I previously stored without using old bold?

Is everything stored on old desktop storage system immediately available on link?

once link is installed make it sync with outlook like you did with BBDTM on your old bold, once the sync happens all your info should come back.
