If you click any of the volume keys you will get the controls to appear.
I agree it would be nice if they would be there permanently on the lockscreen when there's media playing

Dude you can set vol up as next track. Vol down as prev track and mute button as pause. What more do you want......

Yeah we can get it that way but options are always welcome here.....don't want to press buttons to get the controls.....want it automatically to show up when the music is playing.

Well,in my case, if I am not using the phone (looking at the screen or it is locked) and I am listening to music, I use the volume buttons.

While walking and listening to music, I always keep the phone in my pocket with my thumb on those, so they provide easy access without the battery consumption of having the screen on.

I agree, you are on ease with that. But everyone does not feel comfortable hovering to the buttons over n over again.
