    Hi Bla1ze,

Since the latest Blackberry devices now runs Android. I would like to know your thoughts about the current state of OS updates of Blackberry.

Assuming that you already talked with TCL and/or Blackberry with their OS update roadmap, can you give us a glimpse on how will they handle major OS release like Android 10, how will they distribute it, and what is the reason why they only give security updates?

It appears we won't be seeing any further updates or devices, and that the relationship between BlackBerry and its licencee has broken down.

Interesting. May I know where did you read the news about BlackBerry and TCL having some issues together?

I asked Bla1ze about this because maybe, just maybe, BlackBerry and/or TCL has a reason why they are just giving feature “drips” when it comes to OS updates and not full OS upgrade.

It just frustrating that the path that these devices are going to the likes of Passport, if they don’t have a solid plan for serious OS updates.

Best that can be hoped for now is the security patches for the next half year or so... have to be happy with Android 8.

Security patches is one thing, but OS updates is a different battlefield. I mean, the reason why the great and beautiful Passport did not succeed because the Android runtime is stuck with Android 4.4 (if I am not mistaken). If they don’t update the OS of the KEYs, then these devices might have the same fate of the app.

It is just sad that BlackBerry does not show transparency when it comes to these issues.

The KEY series and Motion have nothing to do with BlackBerry. They are TCL devices, and TCL pays BlackBerry for whatever software they want.

Well, if that is the case, then TCL is somewhat damaging BlackBerrys image as a software solutions company. They are requesting BlackBerry to release sub-par software updates just because?

I just hope they will see the light sooner that later.

I hope that another OEM will have the PKB license from BlackBerry. HMD, perhaps?
