I paid $700 for my Passport and can't afford buying another one if this gets lost or stolen but I can afford $120 a year.

I should check with my home insurance.

I understand your thought, be sure to consider the deductible, not just the monthly premium. Generally the premium devices have a $150 deductible. My point is that after the 1 year of ownership the amount invested in insurance nears half the original value of a device that will be selling for way less than the original price. I paid $650 for my Passport and they where on sale for $550 during the holidays, and probably will be selling for $550 in a year. There is nothing wrong with going with that strategy.

I hear you on that. But I'd much feel better to buy an insurance because I just can't afford another Passport.
Things will always happen when it's not prepared.

I just checked my bill. I am with Bell Canada and apparently I pay $10 monthly for a protection plan.

Checked the details and it covers manufacturer's issues before and after a year, power surge, liquid damage and theft/loss.

Your device is unlocked so, assuming you're with Bell, I am not sure of you could get that plan for it.

I got talked/suckered into geeksquad....anyone have experience with them? I figure i'll get a brand new passport out of it at some point. my q10 starting having issues within a few months..first the speaker quit.

they allow up to 5 replacements in 2 years. sounds a bit crazy.
its costing me $10/mo and the deductible is $0-100 depending on whether or not you inflicted the damage yourself.

Make sure you can replicate the problem if you bring it in for an exchange. I've read too many stories of customers bringing in their phones that are having issues and then the problem not being replicated for the employee and then the customer flipping their $@*! because they expected the employee to take them at their word. You gotta be able to prove it.
