Maybe which phone you're looking at/talking about, and what type of coverage you're looking for?

2G will work fine. Most African carriers have UMTS 2100 networks, so that too will be fine. Some of them have UMTS 900 networks as well. Those may not be accessible with an AT&T BB phone. LTE is much more fragmented. Again, it would help to know which phone and carrier(s) you are looking at.
