how to stop someone from using my phone number to send text messages to someone as if it was coming

How to stop someone from using my phone number to send text messages to someone as if it was coming from my phone number?

Are they doing this online? I can do this on verizons website, after logging in. If they are doing it online through your service provider website, just change that password?
