You have discovered a feature of BlackBerry 10 called recent names list.
Terrible implementation.
It works by picking up all email addresses it finds: emails, calendar (meetings) etc.
The list is sorted and shown before our own contacts (not even merged and sorted)
I just discovered in 10.3.1 in the Hub settings you can remove individual recent names by blocking them.
I have not found any settings to disable the feature.
I know BlackBerry have looked into how recent names should work in the future (post 10.2.1) but not the outcome.
Hope this helps a bit.

+1 on it sucking big time.
"Hey, remember that one person you emailed just once 3 months ago? Well, here he is"
And before anyone says so, no, 'blocking' contacts is not an acceptable solution; it's just yet another workaround.
thanks for your answer jpvr
You're welcome.
I just emailed the beta team asking for some additional features:
1) Disable the feature
2) Clear the list
3) Delete individual entries in the list
4) When searching the result consisting of entries from the recent contacts and other contact sources should be sorted.
Let's see what they say...
